Forestry mulching is a land clearing method that uses a single machine to cut, grind, and clear vegetative growth and saplings. The unit uses a rotary drum equipped with steel chipper “teeth” to remove and shred trees, brush and heavy vegetation. The mulch is simultaneously distributed over the cutting area, reducing erosion and vegetative re-growth while leaving a natural, forest-like environment. Forestry mulching is used for land clearing, right of way clearing and maintenance, wildfire prevention, overgrown and heavy brush management, invasive species control and wildlife conservation and restoration
Every project is different which is why we always go and see the jobsite in person prior to putting an estimate together. This initial visit helps reduce day of questions and surprises.
Some trees are too large to mulch and removal is needed.
We cut the trees and either pile them for burning or remove them from your property.
Stumps can be left, or grinded (subsurface) or removed from the ground entirely. Once stumps are extracted from the ground, we can either stockpile and burn those as well or remove them from your property.
Forestry (brush and tree) mulching is a land clearing method that uses a single machine to cut, grind, and clear vegetative growth. The machine uses a rotary drum equipped with steel chipper “teeth” to remove and shred trees, brush and heavy vegetation. The mulch is simultaneously distributed over the cutting area, reducing erosion and vegetative regrowth while leaving a natural, forest like environment. Forestry mulching is used for land clearing, right of way clearing. Wildfire prevention, brush overgrowth management, invasive species control and wildlife conservation and restoration.
Forestry mulching is unlike other land clearing processes in that it can be done with a single machine comprised of a CAT 299 Compact Track Loader fitted with a HM315 Mulching attachment. This rugged mulching head processes trees up to 200 mm (8 in) diameter, vegetative overgrowth and other brush material for effective land clearing results. The resulting mulch falls downward into the cutting area.
Unlike other land clearing methods, forestry mulching leaves no brush or burn piles and eliminates the damage caused by heavy equipment to the retained trees. By processing trees and other vegetation where they stand, mulching machines eliminate many of the steps involved in land clearing. All of the necessary machinery and equipment traditionally used for cutting, felling, hauling and site cleanup are replaced with a single machine. This eliminates the need for multiple pieces of heavy equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, tree shears, wood chippers, grinders, and hauling equipment.
Not usually. Mulching units are uniquely suited for steep slopes, small spaces, and tight or narrow passages. The compact size coupled with a track system allows the machinery to work well in poor ground conditions as well as wet and rainy weather. No matter the season, forestry mulching can be performed year round.
Forestry mulching is ideal for site preparation, land clearing and tree and brush removal. Other applications include constructing recreational hiking and horse trails, hunting lanes, residential wildlife and conservation areas. Alternate activities include the removal of invasive trees and vines that take over residential and public areas as well as storm damage cleanup. Whether removing every tree in an area or selectively removing specific trees and heavy brush, our compact machinery is fully capable of delivering the exact look that you desire.
Forestry mulching is the fastest, least expensive way to clear trees under 8” in diameter, heavy brush and vegetation. Depending on terrain as well as tree and brush density, a forestry mulcher can clear one to two acres in a single day. It is possible to transform unsightly, overgrown property in a single day and usually does not require a permit. As with all projects, it is recommended to request a written estimate outlining the scope of work and start and completion dates.
Not at all. Grovin Farms offers a complete menu of services related to land clearing, property restoration and maintenance. Our services include land clearing, land leveling and grading, tree and stump removal, fence removal, ditch and interior road maintenance.
When it comes to removing vegetation and trees from a large area, many customers start with mulching the undergrowth so they can clearly see all the trees. At that time, they tag trees (let us know what they want to keep) and then we can provide an estimate to remove the undesired trees.
